“Children With Serious Illnesses”

The songs have been used as a tool to soothe and calm children dealing with life-threatening illnesses. They have been played for children undergoing treatment for cancer and other serious diseases, to help them sleep, to help them relax during painful procedures, and, in some instances, to help them make their passage out of this life.

The use of the songs with children who are dying has been deeply moving to me personally. I have heard of numerous families who have had the songs brought to them by a friend, a nurse, or a family member when their child was seriously ill. They have then played the songs to comfort the child in the last stages of their illness, sometimes as the child took their last breath.

Many of these families have then played selected songs at their child’s memorial service, and after, as a comforting bridge to the child they have lost
