“Dawn”

Dear Shaina,

I just wanted to write you to let you know how your music has helped me in my healing. I was diagnosed with DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder) probably 10 years ago. I was severely sexually abused from birth until I was a teenager. Much of the abuse was cult based and my mother was one of the many perpetrators.

I honestly don’t know how I first heard your music, nor do I know how I ended up with your cd “Songs for the Inner Child” but I am so glad I did. I have a pretty extensive internal system, ranging from infants to teenagers. Lately I have been going through a lot of new memories, flashbacks, and body memories. I have also had several new parts come out and make themselves known recently.

The one thing that seems to calm the system is to listen to the Inner Child cd. As a matter of fact, I find notes all of the time from some of the parts who are unable to speak, wanting to listen to the CD. Normally the notes have 2 words on them – “inner child” in all of their unique handwriting. I can always tell who wrote them. I don’t think they have a specific favorite song, since there are so many parts, but they are all content to listen quietly to the entire cd.

All of the parts seem to calm down at the sound of your voice. It is very soothing and they feel safe when they hear it. Even the crying infants get quiet. Honestly, there are many times that I will put it on when I am at work and stressed out, as it seems to calm me down also. I also play it at home a lot, when I am feeling lonely or rejected. Your voice is a comfort to me that I would like to imagine my mother’s might have had if she hadn’t been part of the abuse.

Thank you for your music and your willingness to share it with the world. I am truly grateful for it.
–Dawn
